Hungarian Films to Compete in Locarno

The Hungarian director Benedek Fliegauf’s new film Womb as well as a Romanian-Hungarian-French production called Morgen will compete for the Golden Leopard at this year’s Locarno Film Festival, which starts on August 4.

Womb
, which follows a symbiotic relationship through life, death and rebirth, is Fliegauf’s fourth feature film. It is a German-Hungarian-French coproduction supported by the Hungarian Motion Picture Foundation. It stars Eva Green and Matt Smith.
 
The script for Womb won the Krzysztof Kieslowski Prize at the ScriptEast forum in Cannes in 2008.
 
Fliegauf will attend the screening of the film in Locarno.
 
Morgen is the Romanian director Maran Crisan’s first feature film. The Hungarian actor István Dankó is one of the film’s stars and it features a cameo appearance by the Hungarian director Szabolcs Hajdu. The film is a coproduction of Slot Machine and Katapult Film, headed by Iván Angelusz. It was shot in Sarkad, in Hungary, and Salonta, in Romania.
